History of Golf in Kerala

Golf has been played in Kerala since the late 1800s. The Trivandrum Golf Club is one of the oldest in the country. Laid out in the 1850s, it was where the erstwhile royalty played the game.

The current golf courses in the state are

  • Trivandrum Golf Club (TGC)
  • High Range Golf Club, Munnar (HRGC)
  • Peeramade Golf Club (PGC)
  • Cochin Golf Club (CGC), Bolghatty Island, Cochin.
  • Naval Golf Club (NGC), Naval Base, Wellington Island, Cochin
  • CIAL Golf & Country Club (CGCC), Nedumbassery, Cochin

CGCC is the first 18 hole Golf course in Kerala

As elsewhere, Golf is changing from its long known image as the game of Regalia to a game that is played by people from all walks of life. The increasing popularity of Golf, being one of the sporting pastimes that allow business elaboration at the same time, has increased the number of golf courses in India and Kerala too.
